How to Screen Your Dust for Lead

Dust 1

Location: Window Sills

  1. Remove lead wipe from the bag, but do not unfold the wipe
  2. Wipe 5 different window sills with one wipe (the dustier the wipe is, the easier it is to test)
  3. Place the wipe back in the bag and place the bag with the sample back in the kit
  4. Record the location of the sample on the online form and move to the next sample

Dust 2

Location: Rarely Cleaned Surfaces

  1. Remove lead wipe from the bag, but do not unfold the wipe
  2. Wipe rarely cleaned surfaces like the top of doors or ceiling fans with one wipe (the dustier the wipe is, the easier it is to test)
  3. Place the wipe back in the bag and place the bag with the sample back in the kit
  4. Record the location of the sample on the online form and move to the next sample

Dust 3

Location: Porch or Sidewalks

  1. Remove lead wipe from the bag, but do not unfold the wipe
  2. Wipe the threshold of your porch or your front door step (the dustier the wipe is, the easier it is to test)
  3. Place the wipe back in the bag and place the bag with the sample back in the kit
  4. Record the location of the sample on the online form and move to the next sample
